Resurrectional Love (Easter 2021)

Your friend Jim sang,
'C'mon now, touch me babe!
Can't you see
that i am not afraid?'
and while we all
long to safely touch
each other once again
to feel the warming
and comforting strength
of a familiar embrace
roll up our sleeves
and get vaxed
rip off our masks
and freely live again
our longing is met
with the incessant warning
that vaccines aren't
magic potions of immunity
against all disease
and loving our neighbors
by keeping our distance
and masking our faces
is still our calling
and we continue falling
through a dream
all too real
endlessly spinning
but never landing
friendlessly calling
but hearing only
resounding silence...

in the confounding
astounding sunrising
following Your execution
Your friend Mary
in the dark tomb
of her grief
and pain
heard You
call her name
and against all precautions
rapturously wrapped
her arms around You
wanting only
to touch You
in fearless Love
and total vulnerability
(with nothing impeded
by distances
or masks)
and You responded
not in kind
but in Spirit
and in mind
of the surprising
new Reality
that emerged
with Your rising
that she no longer
needed to touch You
in the familiar embrace
she knew so well
because she had already
been touched within
by transforming Love
she didn't have
to hold on
to You
because she was now
being held within
by healing Love
she could release
her desire
to hang on
to You
because You had done
enough hanging
(on a tree)
for an Eternity
with human hangups
hung on to You
that You graciously
embraced unconditionally
in everlasting Love
that engages all
of life and death
and envelopes it
and arises out of it
more powerfully
and miraculously
than any dream
and reveals
in that Son-rising
new Reality
of Resurrectional Love
that things in life
are not always
as they seem
that tombs are temporary
but Love is Eternal...

so we can
let go
of our fears
of the future
and our regrets
of the past
and our shames
in the present
our uncertainties
of the other
that we perpetuate
through prejudice
and reinforce
through racism
and intrench
through inequality
our insecurities
about provision
when there is more
than enough
to spare
and to share
our titles
and distinctions
since underneath
all the differences
we are One
all our hangups
and hang-ons
that keep us
hanging on
in fear and pain
hanging up
our Hope in shame
we can release
in openness and trust
and live into
what emerges
from the dust
of our graves
in the Love
that floods
temporary tombs
with waves
of everlasting Light
and Life
the Love
that is present
'til the heavens
stop the rain
and the Stars
fall from the Sky
for you
and i...

Let It Be.

(Thanks to my friend and colleague Simeon Spencer for the line 'Tombs are temporary'...)
