Love is there (Good Friday)

the old beloved song
rumbles the earth
that cradles
the old rugged cross...
'were you there
when they crucified
our Lord?'

we WERE there...
bruised reeds
allowing the forces
of flailing furies
to bend us
into submission
to the frenzies
of political power
and privilege
religious indignation
and tradition

we WERE there...
smoldering wicks
allowing the winds
of wailing worries
to extinguish
our embers
because we fear
the ignition
and illumination
and inspiration
of our own Flames

we WERE there...
trembling travelers
allowing the courses
of conspiracies and toxicities
to shift the blames
and our complicities
like Pharisees engaged
in primal lunacies
which forced us
to forget
our own Names

and as we remember
the resonance
of our presence
on that dark day
of surrender
we recognize presently
a darker Reality...

we ARE there...
every time we project
our own prejudicial fears
of the other
upon each other
(forgetting
that what scares us
is enveloped and embraced
by Who Loves us)

we ARE there...
every time we protect
our own provincial interests
to the detriment
and degradation of others
(forgetting
that when we share
with each other
we all thrive together)

we ARE there...
every time we object
to our primal calling
to let go of life
and open up to Love
(forgetting
that as we release
our compulsive control
we revive our Soul)

but as we stare
up at that Person
upon whom we cast
our deepest cares
and aspersions
we are reminded
of a deeper Reality...

Love IS there...
with open arms
and pure Acceptance
to embrace us all
(even as we reject
each other
and ourselves)

Love IS there...
with broken body
and wounded heart
to make us whole
(even as we break
our bonds
and hearts)

Love IS there...
with foolish Wisdom
and gut-wrenching Grace
to forgive us all
(even as we know
our unknowing
and undoing)

and Love is HERE
as we remain trapped
in our chosen caves
and liminal graves
lumbering as lame
cumbering our Claim
slumbering in shame...
