Just US

while there is reason

to give thanks

for the chance

to breathe

a little easier today

a space for anxiety

and uncertainty

to find its release

in judicial accountability

there is remembrance

of the angst

of the one

sworn to protect

and to serve others

with diligence

not to swerve

into vigilance

with a glance

cast askance

from the humanity

rasping beneath him

the brute force

of his knee

on the neck

of the man

gasping for breath

crying for mom

his petitions declined

for 9:29

like the One

who suffocated

under the weight

of injustice

so that the powers

that were

could be placated

so the powers

that are

continue on unabated

sowing seeds

of unreasoned fears

of our sisters

and brothers

of luminous colours

as menacing

maniacal

threatening

'others'

empowering a system

of injustice

rather than engendering

a society of equals

without any 'others'

a Beloved

beautiful

blessed

WE

the people 

of Justice

because we 

are free

to simply be

just US

but until that Day

where It courses

like a mighty River

an ever-flowing Stream

we work to remove

every dam impediment

deterrent

disappointment

disadvantage

disrupting

the Way

of the Flow

of Water

and Wisdom

of Air

and Awareness

of Breath

and Belovedness

each cancerous lesion

excavated and embraced

into the Torrent

of Transcendence

a Glorious new Season

where all can rest

and rise

each Day

in Power

and Peace.
