for the Race (that's not a race)

for my fellow humans
as we find ourselves
at a crucial crossroads
of our culture
and country
as we rabidly
fearfully and worriedly
evade each other
to more fanatically
eviscerate each other
and we rashly
divide ourselves
by mystifying constrictions
and myopic convictions
and rush to decide
which versions of truth
hold more truthiness
than others
and we strain
to see beneath
the facades of factions
and the non-fictional
frenzies that fracture
the fabric
of our fellowship...

may we remember
that the cords
that connect us
are more primal
and pliable
and permanently permeable
than any petrifying
forces of paralyzing fear
that Love withstands
our warring and worrying
and transcends
our terrors
that tear us apart
and that we
are a part
of a Race
that is human
and Hallowed
tearfully and wonderfully
made of limitless Love
and boundless Grace
not a competition
for the swift
and strong
but a Communion
where strength emerges
through weakness
and Wisdom converges
with foolishness
where the goal
of the Journey
is not to win
but to walk
with each other
and to help
out each other
along the Way
and the destination
is a manifestation
of transformation
in the breathtaking beauty
of universal unity
in perpetual diversity
interdependently incarnating
One Beloved Community.

Amen.
