Winter Light

as the blankets

of frosty white

drift upon us

in the frigid night

leaving travelers stranded

and banded together

to help walk

each other home

amidst vehicles

and vagabonds

abandoned and cast

adrift in the freeze

desperate for blankets

of another kind

despairing of anyone

caring enough

to be kind

and a familiar

touch of frozen flesh

hand to hand

and an unfamiliar

blush of smile

present in welcome

absent of guile

captivates attention

in the tension

initiates a connection

heart to heart

generates a warmth

of Winter Light

that illumines the Way

for all weary travelers

to find their way

through the frigid fright

and hopeless plight

into the dawning sight

of a gradually bright

new Day...
