one small Day (21 September)

this one Day
has too many
special commemorations
and celebrations to bear
on its ordinary shoulders
International Day of Peace
National Pepperoni Pizza Day
Last Day of Summer
(always venerated
to the pumping pulse
and irresistible groove
of Earth Wind & Fire)
and the anniversary
of the death of one
of our greatest
contemplative minds
and compassionate hearts
and passionate advocates
(and one of the two
pillars of my spiritual
and literary Trinity)
how can one small Day
hold its own
under such extreme
psychic and spiritual weight?
i suppose
the same way
each small Day does:
by offering the Gift
of simply Being itself
and not expecting
anything beyond the Present
which opens the portal
to the immortal Strength
that can uphold expectations
by ignoring them
and unveil the ordinary
pathway to the Extraordinary
revealed in Cosmic-hearted
and clay-footed Saints
and elementally transcendent Rhythms
and unearthly delicious Provisions
and impossible visions
of perfect Peace.

  1. What a beautiful visual, both with word and with image. Add the sight of the harvest moon and it’s another trilogy. Thank you, Brian. I am celebrating Henri and singing along with E, W & F.

  3. Lovely homage to so many memories and celebrations, formed with such imagery and compassion. Thinking of the importance of Henri in my BIL Jim's life which then flowed into mine as a gift from Jim. Thanks, Brian.
