endearing mishearing

mi amigo Mauricio
hugged me and said
'you've lost your message!'
which reverberated
in my brain
and Being
all day
he meant
my 'mustache'
of paint and dirt
from yesterday
but the endearing mishearing
became my searing inquiry
for Lent.
